I'm letting go of a few pieces that haven’t been getting the use they deserve over the past couple of years. One of them is my Erica Synths SYNTRX II, which I was fortunate to be among the very first to receive — this unit is serial number #7.

A Few Thoughts:

While the SYNTRX II isn’t a direct replacement for an EMS Synthi — they sound completely different — it’s a fantastic way to explore what I like to call the “EMS language.” If the programming and signal flow of the SYNTRX doesn’t click with you, chances are a real EMS instrument might not either.

As a daily user and die-hard fan of the Erica Mixer, I can confidently say that matrix programming on the SYNTRX II is fast and intuitive, very reminiscent of working with pin matrices.

The SYNTRX II is incredibly powerful and sounds fantastic. But in practice, I always find myself reaching for my Synthi AKS, which is always within arm’s reach — and so the SYNTRX hasn’t seen much use.
