Roland RE-201 Space Echo

Technically, the Roland RE series are sound effects—but let’s be honest: they’re instruments. Organic, unrepeatable, quirky, and simply amazing... when they’re working, that is.
The internet is full of RE units described as “mint for their age” or “just needs a new tape to work like new.” That’s wishful thinking. Restoring a Space Echo to true factory condition takes 30+ hours of skilled labor—at least three full working days. But when we’re done, it doesn’t just work—it feels like a new machine. That’s what we offer here.
Here’s what our full restoration includes:
– Complete inside-and-out cleaning, including detailed tolex and metal hardware work
– For 100V Japanese units, installation of a brand new custom-built 230V PSU
– PSU capacitor replacement
– Potentiometer regeneration
– Motor disassembly, inspection, lubrication, and testing; noisy bearings replaced as needed
– Head polishing, alignment, and level adjustment
– All felts replaced and freshly sliced tape installed
– Full calibration to factory specifications
