Vintage EMS VCS3 Mk2
Instrument like new – and with interesting history
This stunning, vintage VCS3 Mk2 was restored for a client of ours by Constantin at Portabellabz.be (the best EMS tech in EU). Sadly, the owner can no longer afford to keep it and it’s offered at an amazing price, bearing in mind the bill for the works alone was about 3000 EUR. It will be provided with CV/Gate converter for MIDI use with regular MIDI-CV converter.
Careful viewer will realize there is something unusual about the panel, because there in fact is! When we got this VCS3 for total refurbishing both woodwork and panels were in poor condition and had to be totally restored. EMS headquarters in the UK currently produce a “thrid” revision of VCS3 panels – with more useful, individual waveforms for oscillator 1 and 2 that we know so well from Mk1 machines. Internally they are a Mk2 revision, hence “Cornwall Mk2”. But, as pictures clearly show the boards and insides, it’s a 1970s produced, original Mk2 with original panel restored and matrix rewired for Mk1 operation. So, in other words, it’s a 100% kosher EMS restored, vintage panel refinished in Cornwall by Robin Wood fitted in vintage Mk2 VCS3.
List of works was very long:
